Every student performer has a different level of talent, both academically and artistically. VPAC recognizes that and wants to cultivate every level to grow. Over 13 years, VPAC has witnessed students thrive and develop to become outstanding contributors to the community. We are excited to implement our formula in the school development.
APPROACH: INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING
Students are curious about the things that are relevant and interesting to them. VPAC believes that students would own their educational experience. With proven research on students thriving when in an environment that supports their curiosity, VPAC knows that the brilliance will be unleashed in our students.
Student performers of color need an encouraging space for them to be authentic in their identity. Preserving the performing arts is. how students find pride in their history and take responsibility in their future as performers on the stage of life.
DISCIPLINE: SYSTEMATIC TRUTH LEARNING METHOD
By engaging students, this approach validates what students "feel intrinsically" about oppression and lack of quality access to opportunity. Students need the skills and tools to navigate and articulate the impact productively and thru this approach, teachers and staff support their freedom to take ownership of their future.
Malcolm Gladwell, author of Outliers, has given a theory that 10,000 hours of anything will create a level of mastery. VPAC follows this principal and instills the necessary habits to become successful. By counting hours with after-school activity, outside of school activity, and personalizing counting, every student will graduate with a minimum of 4,444 hours to ensure by junior year in college they reach mastery. For students who are willing, they can graduate high school with up to 10,000 hours. 8,000 hours or more will earn students an additional Mastery of the Arts diploma.
Dr. Angela Duckworth with the GRIT model has proven throughout the world that growth mindset and aiding students build grit is what can have greater outcomes in performance. In addition to GRIT, VPAC instills healthy living, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship training. Students will learn how to believe their talent can get them to the places they want to go.
